#6 - Pinkwashing, queer coding and lesbians!

Join hosts Dan and Mo as they welcome Raven, a dear friend of the show and a fabulous drag artist just in time for Reykjavík Pride. Together, they dive into a lively discussion about pink-washing and queer-coding, exploring these topics from their unique immigrant perspectives.

The conversation starts into the concept of pink-washing, where Raven tells us how it is to organise and get collaborations around pride week vs. any other time of the year, both as a drag queen and a manager of a venue. Also how corporations and institutions and the media can superficially support LGBTQ+ rights to capitalize on the community without advocating for genuine change.

They also explore queer-coding, discussing characters in media who are hinted to be queer without explicitly stating it. Examples include characters like Ursula from "The Little Mermaid" and Scar from "The Lion King," who exhibit traits often associated with queer culture, yet their identities are never openly acknowledged in the original shows.

Throughout the episode, the hosts and their guest bring a blend of humor, personal anecdotes, and insightful commentary, making for an engaging and thought-provoking conversation. Tune in to hear their perspectives on how Pride celebrations can be both a time of joy and a reminder of the ongoing struggles for true inclusivity and acceptance.
