Names, Nature, and Justice: Indigenous Voices in Climate Action

In this episode of our “Let’s Talk About Climate” podcast we talk to Kimberly Smith, the Southern Appalachian Community Conservationist Specialist from The Wilderness Society and newly appointed member of the Federal Advisory Committee on Reconciliation in Place Names. From policy to place names, Indigenous people in the United States face oppression, prejudice, and racism in the outdoor environment. A member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, Kim illuminates efforts in the Southeastern United States for climate justice for Indigenous communities, emphasizing the importance of intergenerational healing, youth involvement, and tribal sovereignty in climate justice.
