Saviors may be my new favorite Green Day record, and I’m not afraid to say it.
That's right. As a lifelong fan of Green Day and their music, this new album hits in all the right ways. It's a major return to form in concept, while simultaneously daring to push the boundaries of the traditional punk rock sound. It tackles politics, the nuances (and simplicities) of love, mental health, the legacy of rock and roll, and the continuously changing times that are only getting stranger. Green Day rules the punk rock scene, and Saviors proves that even 30 years after the release of their breakout album, Dookie (1994), AND 20 years after their rock-opera masterpiece, American Idiot (2004) changed the music world, they've still got it.
Strange days are indeed here to stay. And so is Green Day. Here's my full track-by-track review!
