How to cope when you hate your job

People may ask, what's the big deal? you have a job, why aren't you happy? There are many factors that contribute to being unhappy with your job such as a toxic work environment, a lack of interest in the job, poor management direction, a lack of productivity and etc. Your career is a huge part of your life, and when it doesn’t leave you feeling fulfilled and satisfied, it can have a pretty big negative impact on your overall outlook and attitude. But, let’s face it—we don’t all have the luxury to pack up our desks and wave goodbye to our supervisors whenever the going gets a little tough. But, when you do eventually move on, you want to do your best to make sure it’s something you’re truly excited about. But what do you do in the meantime? How do you survive a job you hate? It’s possible. You just need to have the right mindset and strategies to turn that awful experience into an opportunity to position yourself for future success and out of their business.

Signs you hate your job:

  • You get anxious at the end of every weekend
  • You experience newly occurring physical ailments
  • You're experiencing a lack of motivation for your work
  • Your productivity has decreased over time
  • You find yourself talking about your job negatively
  • Your work environment is less than positive

Steps to make your job more tolerable:

  • Identify a goal
  • Develop your skills
  • Take advantage of training
  • Set boundaries
  • Work on your personal brand
  • Find someone to confide in
  • Fill your tank & practice gratitude

Remember that the goal is to get yourself to a point where you are making your current position more bearable until you can take off on your own. If it’s too unbearable, then your best bet is to find another job asap but don’t put yourself in a worse situation. The goal is always to level up.
