Graham & Angus describe how many people ignore a core aspect of fitness: Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT). You burn far more calories through NEAT when you move consistently throughout the day than you do in a single hour at the gym. Standing, walking, fidgeting, and household tasks all add up, keeping your metabolism elevated for longer than a short workout can.

People with higher NEAT levels often maintain leaner physiques despite spending less time in formal exercise. Combining NEAT with weight training is the gold standard.
