291 | Intermediate - Short Story: The Clockmaker’s Promise [English Listening Practice]

Title: The Clockmaker’s Promise

Level: Intermediate (B2)

#Story :

Evelyn, mourning the sudden death of her fiancé Daniel, accidentally breaks her mother’s old watch. A mysterious clockmaker appears and offers to repair it—but explains that the watch can rewind time, just once, for a price. Evelyn agrees, desperate to change the past. She is sent back to the day of the accident and manages to warn Daniel, saving his life. However, she nearly loses her chance to return before the clock’s final chime. When she wakes back in the clockmaker’s shop, she learns the price she unknowingly paid: the memory of her first kiss with Daniel. Though the moment is gone, Daniel is alive, and Evelyn finds peace in knowing she saved him—even at the cost of a cherished memory. The story ends with the clockmaker returning to his shop, ready to help the next traveler willing to bargain with time.
