Brain Tumor Awareness Month with Dr. Randy D'Amico
Dr. Randy S. D’Amico is an assistant professor of neurosurgery in the Department of Neurosurgery at Lenox Hill Hospital. The Brooklyn native completed his undergraduate studies at New York University and his medical degree at Robert Wood Johnson Rutgers Medical School, where he was nominated into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society. His graduate and postdoctoral work was done at Columbia University’s Neurological Institute of New York and within the Herbert Irving Cancer Research Center at Columbia University, where his research interests focused on neuro-oncology and the study of brain and spine tumors.

Dr. D’Amico was awarded a prestigious Doris Duke research fellowship in pursuit of these academic interests. Dr. D’Amico completed his comprehensive neurosurgical training at New York Presbyterian Hospital Columbia University Medical Center, where he honed his skills in complex brain and spine surgery. Before completing his training, he served as chief resident for the department. He is a member of numerous prestigious organizations including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) and the Young Neurosurgeon Committee (YNC). He is also an associate editorial board member for the Journal of Neuro-Oncology (JNO) and the host of the international webinar “Tumor Talk,” sponsored by the AANS/CNS Joint Tumor Section, where he discusses new research in brain and spine tumors.

He has published numerous clinical and translational research papers on topics such as gliomas, skull base neurosurgery, intraoperative surgical adjuncts, clinical outcomes of rare diseases, and has developed a passion for studying mechanisms of drug delivery for treating brain tumors. Dr. D’Amico currently works closely with David Langer, MD, and John Boockvar, MD, in the Department of Neurosurgery at Lenox Hill Hospital, where he focuses on the treatment of brain and spine tumors using novel intraoperative technologies to optimize patient outcomes. He is the director of the Northwell Health Center for Brain and Spine Metastasis at Lenox Hill Hospital, and he is currently accepting new patients.
