“State funding always comes with strings attached.” - Iketina Danso
Civil society organizations are a cornerstone of any democracy – especially in the fight against racism and discrimination.
But in Austria, NGOs are under growing pressure:
➤ Public funding is being cut
➤ Applications are delayed
➤ Political narratives increasingly question their legitimacy
At the same time, societal expectations are rising – while resources are shrinking.
In this episode of our podcast Mitmischen we speak with Ikeatina Danso, human rights and antidiscrimination policy expert, about the state of civil society organizations in Austria: What space is left for resistance? How do we defend democratic values when the institutions meant to protect them come underattack?
