Good morning, Murphy! It is Monday, December Fifteenth, Two Thousand Twenty Five, and Sarah is here with your Murphy Morning Show update—local news, seasonal happenings, and a chilly three day look ahead.
Today we start downtown, where Murphy leaders are planning the next chapter for the Town Square after landing a major state grant. The goal is to unify the pocket parks into one welcoming square with fresh brick walkways, improved lighting, and even a small stage on the eastern side for music, movies, and community events. Translation: more reasons to park once, walk more, and keep downtown feeling alive.
We also touch on Cherokee County policy work, including a recent resolution focused on federal land and conservation decisions tied to the Antiquities Act. These aren’t just “big government” headlines—those choices can shape local tourism, recreation, development, and how the county protects the natural beauty that makes this area special.
Christmas season is still in the air, but the biggest Murphy events are winding down after Murphy Mountain Christmas, the downtown tree lighting, and the Murphy Christmas Parade. We also look back at the final First Friday Art Walk of the year and the energy it brought to Peachtree Street—then look forward to its return next spring.
Want one more holiday outing? Mountain Country Christmas in Lights at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds in Hiawassee is still running on select nights through just before Christmas.
Weather-wise: bright but cold today, with highs in the low to mid forties and a hard drop into the teens tonight. Tuesday and Wednesday warm slightly into the upper forties, with a small midweek chance of light showers.
Bundle up, protect pets and pipes, drive smart, and take care of each other.
