There are two major song forms in contemporary musical theatre that you need to know and not nearly enough people are talking about. For our purposes, we’re going to call them the Macro-AABA and the Micro-AABA. They are like the 32-bar AABA chorus form…but also not. These forms are flexible and grounded, and easily allow for contemporary vocal styles and tuneful melodies. So, I think it’s safe to say that you do not want to miss out on knowing and using them.
