At our Learning Lab, we believe that drawing upon lived experience to create narratives, is a way of exercising agency as a marginalised person whose voice is rarely heard — and rarely deemed 'creative'. The Third Eye’s 'Pocket-Sized Stories' bring you narrative discoveries made while plumbing the depths of memory, shaped by each maker's creative agency.
These stories have emerged slowly, fermenting over a steady process of intensive mentoring that starts in one of our writing workshops. Staged on the ground of the everyday, they feature offbeat narrative styles, sometimes bringing you characters like Patnewali (from Patna!) and Achuki from Marwad, sometimes a caseworker’s diary, and sometimes a hushed voice telling you a secret.

द थर्ड आई की लर्निंग लैब में, हम मानते हैं कि हाशिए की आवाज़ें, जिन्हें शायद ही कभी सुना जाता है या रचनात्मक माना जाता है, ये तभी सुनी जा सकती हैं, जब ये आवाज़ें अपनी कहानी खुद कहें. लेकिन ये कहानियां आसानी से जन्म नहीं लेतीं, बल्कि धीरे-धीरे एक खमीर बनने की प्रक्रिया में तैयार होती हैं, जो लेखन कार्यशालाओं और गहन मार्गदर्शन से संभव होती है. इन्हीं कहानियों को, इस रचनात्मक एजेंसी की झलकियों को, उन खोजों को जो लोगों ने अपनी स्मृतियों में उतरकर की हैं, इन्हें हम पॉकेट-साइज़्ड स्टोरीज़ (Pocket Sized Stories) के रूप में प्रस्तुत कर रहे हैं.

What does it mean to look at your city through your experience? In the first part of her narrative, Nasreen looks at the metropolis of Delhi from the terrace of her house in Kashmiri Gate, the only space where she can move freely. She takes us through her private and her public as she thinks about her friendships, her various rendezvous, and her desires standing at the top of her terrace. Other parts of the city are oblivious to her, but she can talk about her dreams under the shadow of Jama Masjid.
Space is one of her biggest negotiations; Nasreen often says that she looks at the gaps and starts creating herself from there. Maybe one such gap structurally and architecturally is her chhat.
Nasreen has participated in the Travel Log programme with The Third Eye for its City Edition. The Travel Log mentored 13 writers and image-makers from across India’s bylanes, who reimagine the idea of the city through a feminist lens.
Preparing for her twelfth standard examination, Nasreen aspires to be a doctor some days and a fashion designer on the others. Nasreen composed her two audio episodes from the terrace of Old Delhi and fields of Kolkata.

ये पुरानी दिल्ली की छत से दुनिया को नापने की ख्वाहिश रखती एक लड़की के किस्सा है. नसरीन की ख्वाहिशें दुनिया के ओर-छोर को पकड़ लेने की हैं. 20 साल की नसरीन, दिल्ली शहर को अपनी छत से देख रही है क्योंकि पूरे शहर में यही वो एक जगह है जो उसे अपनी लगती है, जहां वो कभी भी आ-जा सकती है. जिस महानगर में सांप की तरह तेज़ी से भागती मेट्रो मिनटों में एक जगह से दूसरी जगह पहुंचा देती है, वहीं नसरीन के लिए उसका शहर उसकी पहुंच से बहुत दूर है. उसके कई कोने उसके लिए लगभग अंजान हैं. हां, उसे जामा मस्जिद के बारे में मालूम है क्योंकि वो उसकी छत से दिखाई देती है.
कैसा होता है अपने शहर को इस तरह देखना और समझना? पुरानी दिल्ली की उस छत से उसका क्या रिश्ता है जहां रह-रह कर उसे कोलकाता की याद आती है? कैसा है नसरीन की आंखों में ये शहर-ए-दिल्ली? सुनें खुद नसरीन की ज़ुबानी.
नसरीन, द थर्ड आई सिटी संस्करण के ‘ट्रैवल लोग’ लेख का एक हिस्सा हैं. शहर को देखने की हमारी इस यात्रा का एक बड़ा हिस्सा हमारे 13 ट्रैवल लोग हैं जिनके ज़रिए हम भारत के अलग-अलग कोने से शहरों, कस्बों और गांवों के उनके अनुभवों एवं नज़रियों को जानने और समझने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं.
फिलहाल 12 वीं की परीक्षा में मशगूल नसरीन की दुनिया – दिल्ली और कोलकाता- दो महानगरों के बीच में घूम रही है. ट्रैवल राइटिंग फेलोशिप के ज़रिए नसरीन हमारा हाथ पकड़कर हमें अपनी दुनिया में लेकर जाती है.
