The 4-7-8 Breathing Technique

4-7-8 breathing involves inhaling through the nose for a count of four, then holding the breath for a count of seven and on the exhale, you will make an ‘O’ shape with your mouth and exhale with control, making a ‘whooshing’ sound as you do for a count of eight. This style of breathing help to activate our parasympathetic nervous system which helps our bodies to rest and digest. It’s a soothing breathing technique that promotes a state of calm and peace, and at the end of this session you will feel more relaxed, balanced and grounded. It’s great to have in your wellbeing toolbox, and you can come back to it anytime you feel anxious, stressed, overwhelmed, angry, or unable to fall asleep.
