Challenging Norms: Yip Pin Xiu Talks Candidly on Sexism and Ableism

Yip Pin Xiu, Singapore's Accomplished Athlete Speaks Out Against Treatment of People with Disabilities and Women's Roles in Society In Episode 3, I am proud to host Yip Pin Xiu, a remarkable Singaporean backstroke swimmer and five-time Paralympic gold medalist! Diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth syndrome at the tender age of 2, Pin Xiu lost her ability to walk and moved into a wheelchair at the age of 13. However, these obstacles only fueled her spirit: embracing swimming not only bolstered her muscles and well-being, but also paved the way for a remarkable journey of achieving extraordinary athletic feats over the years. 👑 "It gave me so much more independence that I would not have had without the chair." - Pin Xiu During our conversation, Pin Xiu and I delve into society's perceptions and expectations concerning the female body. We share our personal experiences of defying traditional norms and living as women unapologetically true to ourselves. "I challenge everybody listening and watching to call out ageism, sexism, ableism." Paige Parker In this episode, you'll learn to: 1. Foster inclusivity and support for individuals with disabilities 2. Embrace body positivity 3. Combat the pervasive stigma imposed on women in our society Episode 3 invites all of us to reflect on how we care for our bodies, confront societal judgments, and withstand the pressures to conform.
