A former business manager of a Catholic Church in Bala Cynwyd has been charged with theft of more than $1-million dollars.
An investigation was launched last December by Montgomery County's Detective Bureau after Archdiocese of Philadelphia reported possible theft and embezzlement of $1.1-million dollars at Saint Matthias Church.
60-year-old Sean Sweeney served as the church’s business manager from 2017 until his firing last year.
The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office says Sweeney was responsible for telling a payroll processing company who to pay and how much.
Investigators say the processing company put money into bank accounts owned by Sweeney.
They also say Sweeney used the money for personal expenses for things like educational tuition, vehicle-related payments and vacation costs.
Sweeney has turned himself in. Bail was set at $100,000.
