In today’s reading, we learn that there’s more joy in serving others than in getting what you want. It's a counter-cultural message: Joy is not found in selfishness. From the time we’re kids we believe if we could ever have everything we want or have life go the way we want we would truly be happy, but Paul says the opposite.
