Couple Charged for Hiring Undocumented Workers
Federal prosecutors charge Michigan couple with running plumbing company that allegedly employed hundreds of undocumented workers, making $74 million between 2022 and August. Moises and Raquel Orduna-Rios face charges including harboring, employing, and conspiring to transport unauthorized individuals for financial gain, as well as money laundering. The couples company, Orduna Plumbing, operated in Western New York, Michigan, and other areas, with workers often housed in crowded, sparsely furnished residences and paid minimal amounts. The Ordunas recently appeared in federal court in Detroit and are scheduled for another appearance in Rochester on December second. This case underscores ongoing concerns about labor practices and immigration enforcement in the construction industry.
