Dr Ross McKean qualified as a doctor in the UK in 2013, his career so far seeing him working across 8 different hospitals across the country, as well as a year working as a medical and neurology registrar in New Zealand. In this time as well though, he resigned twice from roles he no longer felt served him well. These apparent failures in his eyes became a major stimulus for rethinking how he could remain a doctor, however. So, rather than leaving the profession completely, he persisted with locums and working abroad, until he fell back in love with medicine, landing on what he feels is his true calling, family medicine. Now in his second year working as a GP trainee in Cambridge England, Ross has also developed a steady following with his company Medizom, which he founded in 2019. Through Medizom, Ross inspires people to find solutions to becoming so called medic zombies, who shuffle lifelessly through their daily work and careers. The solution, he says, is to be more human, and find your own path. His website, medizom.com provides a wealth of resources then to help doctors and medical students remain compassionate to themselves, colleagues and patients, as well as spark ideas of how to find the next way forward when you feel the walls are closing in. Ross eventually plans to settle in Sweden, where his fiancée is from, and is well on the way to reaching this goal, after he qualifies as a GP in 2023.
