11. How long should your podcast episodes be?

Why is a podcast like a piece of string? Because when it comes to length there are many variables to consider.

In this episode Liz and Nat from Pod and Pen Productions answer their very first listener question from Kate from Umina, NSW, Australia.

As Liz says, podcast episodes should be as long as they need to be and not a minute longer! Because you need to respect the time of your listeners.

But there are other things to consider such as the time frame your ideal listener has to listen and the importance of having a consistent length range so your listener knows what to expect.

Nat and Liz also talk you through the latest Australian data on the podcast length listeners prefer.

Takeaways
The ideal podcast length is as long as it needs to be.
*Clarity in the podcast’s purpose helps maintain focus to run to time.
*Consistency in episode length builds audience trust.
*Plan your content to avoid excessive editing later.
*Listeners prefer episodes between 15 and 60 minutes.
*Communicate any changes in episode length to your audience.
*Engaging content can be split into multiple episodes.
