Often times, people from Eastern Kentucky, like myself, move away and are stereotyped as soon as people hear our accents. They often associate it with low intelligence and form other pejorative stereotypes. Cassie, from one of the poorest counties in the state, went on to Yale, Harvard law, and became an author, among other things. We explore the struggles of overcoming these challenges while still being true to one’s community.
