Ep. 242 Teri Tobin

Arizona-based Teri Tobin has been singing since before she could talk. Her first professional introduction to the music industry came when she provided background vocals for Jeffrey Osborne. Although her early training took place in the church, she later received classical training at Howard University. Tobin has admired many music legends, including Donny Hathaway, Prince, and Stevie Wonder, among others. She has shared the stage with renowned artists, including the late great Luther Vandross, Diana Ross, Eric Benet, and Doug E. Fresh. Additionally, she has provided background vocals for Coolio, Chante Moore, and Mica Paris. Her voice has been described as “smoother than wine, rich like butter, and goes down like honey.” A two-time Independent Music Award winner and a two-time nominee for the SoulTracks Reader’s Choice Awards for Female Vocalist of the Year, Tobin has collaborated across various genres, including jazz, gospel, hip-hop, house, EDM, and reggae. Her debut album, Love Infinity (2011), along with its hit single “Free,” a tribute to Donny Hathaway, was a #1 smash in the UK and the Netherlands for several weeks. Tobin also independently released So Good To Me (2012), Christmas Child EP (2012) and Truth Is (2014). With a sound deeply rooted in classic R&B, flavored with jazz and gospel influences, her catalog explores themes of self-worth, real-life experiences, and celebrates the resurgence of love songs. Tobin’s latest highly acclaimed album, Forever, boasts several standout singles: “Curves,” “This Life With You” featuring Al Chauncy, the sensual “Home 2 U,” and the powerful anthem “Melanated Magic,” all of which are being played and streamed globally. The Forever Tour is an intimate blend of sensuality, empowerment, and a customary two-step. In a landscape craving authenticity, her rich, sultry, and soulful sound is both timeless and right on time.
