__________

On episode 19 of Red Lens Podcast, I sat down for a conversation with Jim Saah. Jim is a long-time Washington DC-based photographer and videographer. His photos of 1980s DC punk bands are iconic, including widely-recognizable images of seminal bands like Fugazi and Minor Threat.

We talk about his book that brings together so many of his iconic DC punk band photos, In My Eyes: Photographs 1982-1997. We talk about some of his amazing experiences, like for example photographing Fugazi playing in a jail! We also talk about the politics of his photography including his years working as a photographer for the Teamsters union, where he documented union struggles and strikes around the country. You can also hear about his photography work in the 1990s in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, and Egypt, his video work on two powerful documentary films with Scott Crawford: Salad Days (2014) and Creem: America’s Only Rock’n’Roll Magazine (2019), and much more. You don’t want to miss this episode!
