The word contentment in the original Greek is the word “autarkeia” which gives six (6) unequivocal meanings of contentment. 1. Contentment is a state of Happiness, Joy and Satisfaction. A Christian’s state of happiness and satisfaction is rooted in his or her relationship with the Lord rather than material possession or necessarily the state of life - Isaiah 12:3, Habakkuk 3:17-19, James 1:2-4. How to Cultivate a True State of Joy and Satisfaction 1. Prioritizing a Relationship with God. Spending consistent time in prayer, reading the Bible, and meditating on God's word is essential to knowing God, the true source of joy. 2. Cultivating a Heart of Gratitude. Practicing gratitude for God's blessings, even the small ones, helps shift focus away from what is lacking to what has been provided.! 3. Trusting in God’s Sovereignty. Believing that God is in control and works all things for the good of those who love Him provides peace and resilience in the face of uncertainty - Job 13:15. 4. Doing Ministry. Ministry is simply serving others. Anybody who is actively serving the Lord in the ministry, taking care of His people brings such a great joy and fulfilment like you have never known.
