Adrienne Torf is a composer and pianist well known for her solo career and her artistic collaborations with poet, activist and teacher June Jordan spanning nearly 20 years. June Jordan was one of the most widely published and highly acclaimed writers of her generation committed to the human rights movement and political activism.
Although June Jordon passed away in 2002, she left an amazing legacy of work and Adrienne has been a steward of June’s words with this project that you’ll learn more about shortly. I am one of the storytellers in the show, that took place here in Sedona, and I can tell you that it was excruciatingly difficult to share my own stories but it has also become one of the most therapeutic and cathartic experiences of my life. The response of gratitude from the audience was overwhelming in a good way for all of the story tellers.
I’m going to share the quote with you that is the entire basis of the production:
“We need, each of us, to begin the awesome difficult work of love, loving ourselves so that we can become able to love others without fear, so that we can become powerful enough to enlarge the circle of our trust and our common striving for a safe, sunny afternoon near to flowering trees and under a very blue sky.”
You can email Adrienne directly if you're interested in producing The Awesome Difficult Work of Love in your city or town. She generously made this available to anyone who'd like to make an impact with meaning through this beautiful piece. Email: atorf@yahoo.com
