Margaret Cochran Corbin was born in Pennsylvania in 1751. She became a hero during the American Revolutionary War when her husband was killed in battle and she took over his position operating a cannon. She was injured during the battle of Fort Washington in 1776, and became the first woman to receive a military pension from the United States government. She is remembered for her bravery and patriotism in the face of adversity.
