A space for women to talk about all the things that nobody wants to talk about. We ask the uncomfortable questions and aren't afraid to make the room a bit awkward. We'll talk about the embarrassing and weird aspects about being a woman you wouldn't bring up at the dinner table, and attempt to laugh our way through navigating divorce, life after loss, and childhood trauma to crazy hormones, diet culture, and mental health buzzwords. Hopefully realizing along the way that our struggles as women aren't so different after all. New episodes each Thursday!

9: Defining mental health buzzwords (Dr. Emily Ferrara)

If you spend any time on social media, you see certain words circulating more often surrounding mental health. Words like anxiety, depression, narcissist, OCD, PTSD, trigger, and gaslighting. These terms and disorders are used to self diagnose based on watered down definitions and keywords. Dr. Emily Ferrara joins me to bring some clarity to the conversations. She describes disorders from a clinical perspective and the defining characteristics of them.

We also chat through why I've chosen not to offer trigger warnings in my episodes, and ways to self regulate when you DO feel triggered.

Dr. Emily Ferrara is a licensed professional counselor and executive coach, and  founder of Simplify Life Counseling + Coaching. In her practice, she works with high level executives and professional women to grow, develop and accelerate as marketplace leaders. Her goal is to help professionals, specifically women, to experience greater fulfillment at work and in life. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), she aims to be her client's guide along the way as they learn about the connection between their brain, their feelings and their behaviors.
