The podcast series will leverage the beauty, richness and uniqueness of cultural diversity, and highlight the triumph and strength of participants who represent cultural diversity, as an asset to improving social cohesion and community harmony. We seek to highlight the triumphs and shared humanity across cultural groups through the podcast series, to break the stereotype of the quintessential Australian, and strengthen and improve attitudes towards cultural diversity. Inclusion comes from acceptance - Meet Lucy Reggio
Today's host is Mahmood. He is joined by Lucy on Western Sydney MRC's new venture of the discovery of Western Sydney and its rich diversity through storytelling and the amazing world of podcasts.
Lucy has an Italian heritage and is a champion and advocate in the disability sector.
She is President and Founder of the Special Needs Ability Program Providers (SNAPP), and Catena, organisations supporting people with disability in sports.
Lucy’s son Alex was one of only a handful of people in Australia to be diagnosed with the rare genetic disorder Robinow Syndrome.
In this episode she shares what inspired her to start SNAPP and how her personal life experience with disability has been a key driver for her - giving her the ability to see the challenges of programs that cater to the needs of ‘normal’ children without the individualised programming required for children living with a disability.
