What is Work For? - 18 July 2020

What is Work For? - 18 July 2020

Listen to a summary of the Meaningful Conversation we had on Saturday July 18th. 2020.

Some of the questions we covered include:

Is work just a way to get paid so we can live the rest of our lives? Or can it be an act of service to humanity and even a form of worship?

When we look at our lives it can sometimes seem that we live to work, rather than working to live. Or that our paycheck is our only consolation for the hours we’ve put in. What if it didn’t have to be like that? What if we realised that  work done in a spirit of helping others was an invaluable contribution to society? What if the value of our job ceased to be defined by our salary alone? What if we reflected more deeply on how to tend to the needs of others through the application of our individual talents and skills?

The current world crisis has shown us how we rely on one another in ways we somehow didn’t realise. We are recognising the value of those who do jobs we may have taken for granted before. It seems like an important moment to ask why and understand the meaning of work.

In these free online events we discuss the spiritual perspective offered by the Bahá’i teachings on important themes. We aim to create an opportunity for the community to talk about the things that matter most to us all, with the intention of promoting unity and fostering a spirit of love and fellowship.

“Work done in the spirit of service is the highest form of worship.” – Bahá’i Teachings
