📝 Vocabulary (Wortschatz)

  • beginnen – to begin/start – Ich beginne meinen Tag um sieben Uhr.

  • wichtig – important – Der Kaffee ist wichtig für mich.

  • fahren – to drive/travel/go (by vehicle) – Ich fahre mit dem Bus zur Arbeit.

  • das Büro – the office – Ich arbeite in einem kleinen Büro.

  • freundlich – friendly – Die Kollegen sind freundlich.

  • die Kantine – the canteen/cafeteria – Ich esse in der Kantine.

  • gehen – to go (on foot) – Ich gehe nach Hause.

  • das Buch – the book – Ich lese ein Buch.

  • sehen – to see/watch – Ich sehe einen Film.

  • die Familie – the family – Ich besuche meine Familie.

📚 Grammar Focus: Separable Verbs (Trennbare Verben)

Explanation:

Some German verbs consist of a prefix (e.g., an-, ab-, ein-, zu-), and a base verb. In a simple main clause (like the ones above), the base verb stays in the second position, but the prefix moves to the very end of the sentence.

Examples:

  1. anfangen (to begin/start) $\rightarrow$ Ich fange die Arbeit an.

  2. fernsehen (to watch TV) $\rightarrow$ Am Abend sehe ich einen Film fern. (The article uses sehen for 'watching a film,' but fernsehen is a common separable verb.)
