Rushi Vyas talks with CL Young about writing after loss, the role of detachment in healing, and ritual as a tool for decolonization.///////Rushi Vyas is a US-born poet now living in Aotearoa New Zealand. He is currently working on a creative/critical PhD in Literature at Te Whare Wānanga o Otākou (The University of Otago) focused on ritual based poetic practice. His first poetry collection, When I Reach For Your Pulse (forthcoming from Four Way Books in 2023), orbits the experience of Rushi finding his father dead from suicide in 2013. The poems serve as an entry point into the healing process and as a way to explore transnational and transcultural identity and inheritance. https://www.rushivyas.org/ The Book of Delights / Ross Gay: https://bookshop.org/books/the-book-of-delights-essays/9781616207922 Sema’s trailer music is from a song by Teal Gardner called “Joy Heraldic.” You can find more of her music here: https://spirit88.bandcamp.com/album/free-in-the-open-field To join the mailing list, request an episode transcript, or share your insights, please send an email to: sema.readingseries@gmail.com.
