Chapter 4: From the Wobbly Bridge to the Sea, 50 miles, April
It’s April 11th 2002 – World Parkinson’s Day – and Tom sets off on Coastin’. Starting in London on the Millennium Bridge (aptly nicknamed the ‘wobbly’ bridge), Tom gets a celebrity-fuelled send off as he begins his 4,500 mile walk. But is he prepared for the daunting challenge ahead?
Chapter 5: From Corringham to Southend, 22 Miles, April (16:05)
Following a fairly smooth departure from London, Tom faces a number of difficulties early on including a lengthy detour, issues with his medication, wet feet, and stinging nettles, so much so that he questions whether the challenge ahead of him is too great.
Chapter 6: From Southend to Snape, 116 miles, April (23:11)
After a couple of false starts Tom slowly gets into the rhythm of walking every day. He admires the changing landscape as he heads into Suffolk, where he begins to see the kindness in strangers, and publicity for his challenge grows.
