Addictions come with Demons that are inexplainable. They seem inescapable, and some people never do escape them. Mental illness also falls in this category; anxiety and despression are a prison. Our minds are in bondage. In Christ we are set free. The wilderness is tough, it's submitting to the unknown. But surrendering to that, overtime, we can be yolked to Jesus, and come to know His Yolk is Easy and His burden is Light. Exodus is the Journey of the Unknown. The unfamiliar peace, with the pull to go back to the familiar abuse. It's not worth it. Have Courage to Surrender to the Unknown.
