A podcast centred around discussing the real issues that have affected the Somali diaspora & avoiding false narratives that have stopped progressive conversations from taking place for many years. We aim to speak about the problems that have weakened us since our parents migrated to the West in the 90's. We hope that, through this platform, we can share both our and your voices & opinions on what can be done to improve the outlook of the community now - and tomorrow.
Overcoming hurdles with a new perspective.

Overcoming hurdles with a new perspective.
More than 30 years have passed since the collapse of the military regime in Somalia, causing a devastating civil war in the process.
30 years have gone by and the psychological and mental repercussions are still felt today all over the world within Somali families. According to the World Health Organisation, the nation has the distinction of having the highest prevalence of mental illness in the world. The effects of racism, unemployment, isolation, lack of integration & welfare dependency have all but caught up to us & show no imminent signs of departing.
The host invite Counsellor Habib back in a two-part series in cracking down the stigma of mental health. The following are covered:
- Why should we take mental health seriously today, more than ever?
- Why is it so difficult as a man to accept help?
- Misconceptions between the religion and mental health
- The effects of the civil war that trickled down from parents to their children
