We’re heading back to Oz for Wicked Part Two: For Good, but first we discuss the stunning new trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping and Paris Hilton’s upcoming "visual memoir."
On this week's date, we start with a stacked pop culture debrief. We obsess over the "Midsummer vibes" and casting of Joseph Zada in Sunrise on the Reaping, predict that Paris Hilton’s Infinite Icon will be the campest thing ever, and breakdown the weirdly serious "interviewing each other" format of the new Avatar 3 promo. We also celebrate the return of Stranger Things and lament a Pilates class mix-up that resulted in an accidental "Dynamic" session.
Then, we fly into the second act of Wicked. We break down the "depressing but brilliant" shift in tone, questioning everything from Elphaba's drafty "Thanos-style" treehouse to the logistics of a Yellow Brick Road that's only four people wide. We discuss Glinda's "girl boss" era, the awkwardness of the Fiyero/Glinda PR engagement, and why Elphaba decided to wear a giant Lenny Kravitz knit for her big romantic moment. Finally, we analyze the emotional weight of "For Good," the terrifying dictatorship of Nessa Rose, and that perfect closing shot.
Wicked Part Two: For Good Elphaba and Glinda's journey continues in the second chapter of the cinematic adaptation of the legendary musical. Now the most hated figure in Oz, Elphaba lives in exile while Glinda basks in popularity as the Wizard’s public face. As dark secrets about the Wizard’s regime come to light and a girl from Kansas drops a house on the Governor of Munchkinland, the two witches must reconcile their differences to change Oz for the better. Director: Jon M. Chu Starring: Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Ethan Slater
