Volksgarten
Ein Podcast von Gabriela Gordillo, Sara Piñeros und maiz für Sounding Linz - ein projekt der Linzer Klangwolke 2020.
"To listen is not to simply know where I am on the visual map that hangs outside the park gates. It is to experiece where I am in the park of my own listening. It makes the park real and present for me in the lived reality of my inter-subjective self." - Listening to Noise and Silence, Salomé Vogelin
During the Klangwolke 2020, maiz organized a sound walk (Klangspaziergang) at Volksgarten, proposing the visitor to explore the space with the eyes closed.
Volksgarden encloses a soundscape of polyphonic rhythms in the middle of the city, bounded to the complexities of its transcultural character, that makes it representative in Linz.
While closing the eyes, the ear discovers a world of stimulus that result in a new topology of the space, in the imagination. In this podcast you can experience Volksgarten through its sounds and the listening of others.
(Using headphones is recommended).

Acoustically this place acts like a gateway. The terminal Landgutstraße in Urfahr is practically the same distance away to the western city limits, as it is to the main square in Linz. A fact that does make itself noticed through its sounds as well. It is a meeting place between two worlds, a meeting place between the masses and the individual. On the one hand the traffic from the Rudolfstraße, which represents one of the main connections to the western Mühlviertel via car, is quietly audible in the background, yet is still omnipresent, as if it were to act as a quasi baseline. Constantly present, yet always in the background. As between the terminal and the main through road, the space is taken up almost exclusively by gardens full of trees from which the songs of birds add to the acoustic environment. Every now and again, single cars drive to and from the through way, but mostly do this individually, making the noise from the traffic very easily identifiable. Every time the silence is broken you are reminded how quiet and relaxed this atmosphere actually is.
