(11 Nov. 2022) When singer-songwriter Rae Charmaine was growing up in Zimbabwe her dream was to be a triple threat like the child stars she saw on the Disney Channel.
While her wide-ranging approach to the performing arts (including acting and spoken word) might dilute the work of a less talented artist, it is Rae's unique approach to songwriting that sets her apart within the Amsterdam scene that she has been a part of for the past six years.
And though her vocal style has traces of Ella Fitzgerald, Sister Nancy and Lauryn Hill, the sound is a far cry from anything you've heard before.
In this episode of Streets of Fire with Jesse Lent, Rae discusses what brought her to the Netherlands, breaks down her songwriting process and performs live in the the Broadcast Amsterdam studio.
