Richard Gillis: sport business & golf journalist, author 'The Captain Myth' and co-founder of Unofficial Partner

This week’s guest is the enigmatic Richard Gillis, a well known figure within the sports, and especially sports business, sectors. He is a journalist, podcaster and author, with his 2016 book The Captain Myth: the Ryder Cup and sports great leadership delusion.

I really loved this chat with Rich, someone I first really met 6 years ago when he moderated a panel for me in Shoreditch. An event that sticks in both our minds and you’ll hear why later on.

We covered many points in his career, the highs and lows. Times that have included writing fake viewers questions for the lunch break during Channel 4’s coverage of the cricket; riding the internet wave in the early 2000’s with Sport Business;

And his time in the West Indies for the 2007 Cricket World Cup covering the Irish team's involvement. A tournament that included their defeat of the mighty Pakistan team, led by Bob Woolmer. Shortly after Bob was found dead in his room and Rich found himself close to the centre of it all after spending what turned out to be his last day with him, and was staying just 3 doors down from where it happened. The media circus that ensued sounds bonkers.

A big thank you to Julian Moore at Mills & Reeve for kindly allowing us to record at their office in London.
