“Flavors of Stealth” CheekyBrit (USA)

──What inspired you to create this film for GIFF 2025?

The introduction to the 2000 film 'snatch' by Guy Richie was my main inspiration. You see each of the characters introduced with a short clip of them and a grayscale freezeframe of them with the background covered by a single color. Then it was a question of working out the ideas for different stealthy approaches. The big one - the stuntman approach was a must, and since I rock climb, I already had all the equipment.

──How many people worked on your film, and how long did the production take?

We had a pretty skeleton crew working on the film. Other than the eight people who featured in the film, we had a 14 year old director, Abby, and that was it. I did all the editing myself and filmed everything except the stuntman shot or the scene when I was in. We had 1 afternoon taking 90 minutes to film most of the shots then did a few shots 4 and then 6 months later, taking 15 minutes each. The jittershot with all the fast flashing circle shaped objects at the start was photos taken over 3 months in a nuclear plant. The different dates spanned 10 months, but all footage was captured in 4 hours of active work. Editing took 2 weeks.

──What was the most memorable or challenging part of making your film?

The most memorable and challenging part of the film was the stuntman approach. We took 2 attempts to film it and Ian was upside down for about 2 minutes at a time with pauses in between. We had a haul team using a 5:1 pulley system with a grigri and ascender to capture progress and easily release it to lower him.

──Is there a moment in your film that you hope geocachers around the world will notice or appreciate?

I hope people will notice the ending how our main character decided to introduce someone to geocaching this time instead of always being stealthy.
