#18 Healing in layers: From violence to vulnerability (with Sarah French)

“I didn’t feel seen. I didn’t feel heard. I didn’t feel safe.”

Sarah French grew up in a world where safety wasn’t a given. Violence at home. A fractured bond with her father. Abuse that left scars too deep to name until years later, when they roared back through the surface.

She joined the military at 17 to escape and for the first time, she felt something new. Stability. Brotherhood. A thread of healthy masculinity around her. But the wiring was still survival. She knew how to push through, not how to heal.

In this conversation, Sarah speaks with raw honesty about addiction, OCD, the nervous system’s defence strategies and the long road back to softness. It’s not a straight line it’s a series of reckonings.

Heads up: we had some tech gremlins visit during recording, so you’ll notice Sarah’s background shifts halfway through. New location, same real talk.
