Banality is the whole point of life. Discover golden nuggets in banality with us. We are Nepalese immigrants living in the US, immigrated to the US for graduate school and latched ourselves into this hodgepodge of a society. Our story is quite trivial, hence the name Banal. The attention economy is not conducive to mundane experiences of people, but we feel quite the opposite. We (as in you the reader and us the hosts) heard same old stories growing up, had similar trails and tribulations. Most importantly, we are shaped by a set of common, not so interesting experiences but somehow we are oblivious to the fact these prosaic endeavors are what matter the most in life. To that end, discovering and highlighting golden nuggets in intuitively uninspiring stories of people is the whole point of this little experiment of ours. We encourage you to engage with us and live vicariously through our episodes.

The Manager: Software Engineering at Scale @Microsoft (Ft. Sudip Lama)

This week, we have brought you a conversation with Sudip Lama, Senior Software Engineering Manager at Microsoft. This podcast revolves around multiple aspects of software development like scaling, competitive programming, and managing software engineers to name a few.  Sudip’s perspectives were really helpful to understand an insider's view of the industry. We hope you will enjoy it. Thanks.

We venture into many different aspects of software engineering like cloud computing and scaling among others. While software engineers are smart people, they are not the easiest of people to manage. So what does software engineering management at scale looks like? The answer is in the episode.

All in all, this is a fun and contentious episode, we also get into a debate on the ethics of benching and the big tech companies and whose role and responsibility it is to regulate the wild goose chase in software engineering? Follow the episode to find out.

PS: This is the first video uploaded on Spotify. Hope this brings an enjoyable experience.
