“Set It Off” Copycats: The Lindell Bank Heist on St. Pat’s in St. Louis

On March 17, 1997, Dogtown’s St. Patrick’s Day parade collided with chaos when two gunmen stormed Lindell Bank at McCausland and 40, gunned down the security guard, sprayed the lobby with gunfire, and torched a stolen getaway van in Forest Park. We sit down with retired homicide detective Tommy Carroll—who handled the case—and Greg Colombo, owner of Colombo’s Café and a long-time Lindell Bank customer who’d been inside that morning, to retrace every frantic minute: the parade gridlock, radio confusion, burning money, melted rifles, and the surreal interview-room moment involving a prosthetic leg. Programming note: the interview starts at 41:00.We also open with a quick salute to the U.S. Marine Corps’ 250th birthday and share a few laughs about the viral reaction to our Raphael Jackson confession episode—before locking back in on one of St. Louis’ wildest bank robberies. The Brighter Side of Blue—St. Louis stories from the men and women who wear the badge, recorded at Colombo’s Café in Dogtown. If you dig it, please like, comment, and share so more St. Louis folks see it.#TheBrighterSideOfBlue #StLouis #Dogtown #LindellBankRobbery #BankRobbery #TrueCrime #LawEnforcement #SLMPD #StPatricksDay #ForestPark #Hibernians #1997 #ColombosCafe #HomicideDetectives #StLouisHistory
