The Tuskegee Deception — Part 2: The Whistleblower, The Cover-Up & The Silence That Followed
The truth didn’t end the Tuskegee experiment —
exposure did. In Part 2 of The Tuskegee Deception, host Garrett Greene reveals how the 40-year government experiment finally unraveled — not because officials stepped forward, but because one man refused to stay silent. When Public Health Service employee Peter Buxtun leaked the files to the press in 1972, the story exploded across the nation.
The headlines were undeniable:
Hundreds of Black men were left to suffer and die while a cure existed — deliberately. This episode uncovers the aftermath:
• the internal panic inside the Public Health Service
• the New York Times investigation that ignited national outrage
• the congressional hearings that followed
• the settlements, the survivors, and the families left to rebuild
• and why no doctor or official was ever criminally charged
Part 2 also explores the long shadow Tuskegee cast on modern America — from medical mistrust in Black communities to public health challenges that still echo today. Because the end of the study wasn’t the end of the damage.
It was the beginning of the reckoning. This is Part 2: The Whistleblower, the Cover-Up, and the Silence That Followed.
Because the truth wasn’t hidden — it was ignored.
And for 40 years… nobody asked why.
