According the American Psychological Association, "Resilience is the process and outcome of successfully adapting to difficult or challenging life experiences, especially through mental, emotional, and behavioral flexibility and adjustment to external and internal demands."
When you are experiencing chronic workplace stress, your nervous system spends a lot of time in hyperarousal (fight or flight) or hypoarousal (freeze). Resilience is not so much about being tough and hard on the outside. It’s not about resisting the ups and downs of life and career. It's actually about leaning into it--being flexible and flowing with whatever is happening.
