His mixture of authenticity and flash made him a fascinating match for “The Two Popes,” his latest film starring Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce. Centered on the 2013 exchange of power at the top of the Catholic Church, the film is also a story about the ongoing struggle between ideas.
