
As a remedy to help out during the great depression, the US Government created a program to help put food on tables. In May of 1939, a Rochester, NY resident by the name of Mary McFiggins was the first person in history to receive them. Now 42 million US citizens are now dependent of what is now known as SNAP. With the Government shutdown continuing on, 42 million people may not receive any assistance come November 1st.
