The Discussion: Rob Staruch and Tom Kirk

In our second podcast, we talk to Rob Staurch and Tom Kirk. Rob and Tom formed part of the fantastic brains of the OxVent project - a vast team of engineers and medics at the University of Oxford and King's College London who worked together to develop an open-source, rapidly deployable and scalable low-cost mechanical ventilator designed specifically for COVID-19. Doing so in response to the call to arms by the Government who launched the Ventilator Challenge. Beyond that, however, Rob and Tom have continued to form an instrumental part of the UK's response to and recovery from the pandemic in the form of VaxiMap - an incredibly easy to use web app, enabling doctors and health workers to find the optimal route between addresses for in-home vaccination. Towards the tail end of March this year, the platform had built 20,000 routes for some 220,000 patients.
