Episode 14 - Marc Julien - Surviving Cancer and Race Across America 2021
Just four weeks after the birth of his first child, Marc Julien's world was turned upside down. He was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in his neck and tonsils. This past December, he celebrated two years cancer free and he has a major goal for 2021. He's training to compete in the “Race Across America” (RAAM) ultra-cycling event this June, a 3,000-mile bicycle race from Oceanside, California to Annapolis, Maryland. It is one of the most respected and longest running ultra-endurance events in the world. RAAM is seen as a pinnacle of athletic achievement not only in cycling circles but the greater sporting community as well. Marc created a RAAM relay team of eight perfect strangers (several teammates are cancer survivors, or impacted by cancer in their own way) who will join him on this journey to prove cancer is a calling to achieve more in life. They plan to complete the cross-country race in just over 5 days, 10 hours! In addition to training for the race, Marc and his team are on a mission to raise at least $500,000 for childhood cancer research through the non-profit he started, called RAAM21.com. The money will be donated to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. They've already raised close to $100,000
