Inside Nick Reiner’s Defense and the Warnings Police Had | The Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Murders

Nick Reiner’s arraignment is set for Wednesday, and tonight we start the week by laying the groundwork. We’ll look at who is defending him, why his attorney is considered one of the best in the country, and what that means for the road ahead. We’ll also examine newly reported details showing police had been called to Rob Reiner’s home before, raising serious questions about mental health warnings, missed opportunities, and what authorities knew long before the killings.

Case Background:

Rob Reiner, the acclaimed Hollywood director and actor, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, a prominent photographer and producer, were found stabbed to death in their Brentwood, Los Angeles home on Sunday, December 14, 2025. Their daughter, Romy Reiner, discovered their bodies after first responders were called to the residence in the afternoon. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner ruled their deaths homicides, caused by multiple sharp force injuries. Their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, was arrested later that same day and has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with his parents’ deaths. He is being held without bail, and prosecutors have noted special allegations related to multiple killings and the use of a deadly weapon.

Nick Reiner has a documented history of mental health struggles and substance abuse. In the weeks prior to the killings he was reportedly undergoing treatment for schizophrenia and addiction, with at least one adjustment to his psychiatric medications said to have contributed to unstable behavior, according to some sources.

Sources close to the family told reporters Rob and his son had been seen arguing the evening before the deaths, at a holiday gathering. Investigators believe the fatal stabbings occurred in the early morning hours of December 14, after which Nick reportedly left the scene before being located and arrested near the University of Southern California several hours later.
