TradeMutt: The Aussie tradies on a mission to start conversations about mental health

Content Warning – This episode discusses anxiety, depression, mental health and suicide.

Suicide rates among tradies are higher than any other group in Australia. According to Mates in Construction (MIC), every year 190 Australians working in this industry take their own lives.

In this episode, RedEye Co-Founder and CEO, Randall Makin, speaks with Daniel Allen and Ed Ross, the Co-Founders of TradeMutt and TIACS, who are working hard to change these statistics. If you’ve noticed tradies in colourful, vibrant shirts branded with the slogan “This is a Conversation Starter”, then you’ve come across TradeMutt’s signature workwear.

Tune in as Randall chats with Ed and Dan about how and why these two tradies left their careers to start a social enterprise, being recognised with Australian of the Year nominations, investing in business longevity and work/life balance, Headlining TEDx Talks, Funky Shirt Fridays, and much, much more.

If you, or someone you care about needs support, there is help available.

  • In the case of an emergency, call 000.
  • TIACS is a free and confidential counselling service.
