He discovered his passion for Art in 2009 after the death of his mother. In 2010, He met a Canadian filmmaker who would introduce him to sound systems, video production, and photography. After a few years, Eric started volunteering at his local church as a videographer, photographer, and drummer and also working as a wedding videographer as a side hustle. After finishing secondary school and couldn’t afford to continue with university due to financial reasons, He decided to continue with his videography & photography passion. He started out as a freelancer working with different local and international NGOs as a video consultant. The NGOs include CARE International, UNPD, AEGIS Trust, World Vision, Alibaba groups, 2014 Big Brother Africa, and many more. In 2016, Voice of America (VOA) and Global Africa Press (GAP) recognized Eric’s talent and passion for storytelling and they trained him in photojournalism for 3 months before hiring him as their correspondent in Africa focusing mainly in West Africa. He supervised over 35 journalists in different parts of Africa and worked on many stories especially for “VOUS ET NOUS SHOW” and “WASHINGTON FRUM SHOW” on VOA. After three years of working at VOA, Eric continued with his photojournalism journey with BBC Story Works where he still works from time to time as an independent contractor. In recent years, Eric has also worked with Meta (Facebook) to work on the production of short films that are being used in the Meta headset VR experience for people who can’t manage or afford to visit the gorillas. In 2019 Eric started a long-term documentary photo project called BONDS & BROOMS. It is a black-and-white photo project documenting women and men who made Rwanda the cleanest country in Africa. Since he started the project it has appeared in different photo exhibitions around the world. He’s also working on another separate project fully funded by SNV Rwanda called UMUTAKWASUKU.
