Dr. Yesid A. Ramirez is a chemist with emphasis in biochemistry who graduated with honors from Universidad Icesi (Colombia) and PhD Magna Cum Laude in medicinal chemistry and drug design from the University of Würzburg (Germany). Since 2012, he has worked in the use of cannabis and cannabinoids as therapeutic agents.
In this episode, Yesid talks about his search for therapeutic cannabis chemovars and collaborative programs between indigenous healers and universities in his botanically diverse native Columbia.
His collaborative research between the University of Würzburg and Universidad Icesi focuses on the development of photo-pharmacological probes for the study of the endocannabinoid system and in the study of the metabolic diversity of cannabis chemovars cultivated in Colombia. Currently, he leads diverse educational programs around the use of cannabis as medicine for medical doctors, undergraduate students, and historically discriminated indigenous communities in Colombia.
